Roadchef business reported to be on the market for up to £1bn

The UK’s third largest motorway services operator Roadchef is reported to have been put up for sale by its owner, French infrastructure and private equity firm Antin.

According to press reports Antin has appointed the Australian investment bank Macquarie to find a buyer for the business.

Antin bought Roadchef for £153m in 2014, but there are claims that it could be sold for up to £1bn.

The motorway services sector was hit particularly hard by the lockdowns caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, but Roadchef appears to have bounced back since the regulations were eased.

After the August bank holiday this year it claimed that the trend for staycations had helped it to achieve one of its busiest trading weekends ever with almost one million visitors.

The proposed sale of Roadchef comes shortly after Antin floated on the Euronext Paris stock exchange, with the company raising around €550m from the listing.
